Just a little extra fat in the upper neck area will create the appearance of a double chin that is bothersome to both women and men. The additional pockets of fat below the chin (or the submental area) may be caused by weight fluctuations, aging, or genetics that lead to a weaker jawline and chin for an undefined profile. Our skilled cosmetic team is happy to offer a revolutionary technique to eliminate neck fat. Approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Kybella is the first nonsurgical treatment for submental fat. The active ingredient in Kybella is a synthetic version of deoxycholic acid that acts similarly to the body's natural DA to break down and absorb fat cells. Once it is injected below the chin, you can see a noticeable decrease in the amount of fat. When the fat is destroyed, the cells will not reform so you are able to enjoy your new slender neck and strong jawline for years to come. Call Plastic Surgery Vegas to learn more.
Is kybella right for you?
The best candidates for Kybella injectable treatments have unwanted fat in the upper throat (submental area), which creates a double chin or unwanted volume. This injection corrects resistant pockets of fat that can't be removed with common weight loss techniques due to genetics, aging, or other conditions. If you are near a healthy, stable weight, but exercise and diet have not worked to remove the fat in your submental area, Kybella may be the correct treatment for you. While Kybella can address small to moderate amounts of fat below the chin, significant amounts of fat may require neck liposuction.

Kybella is administered in one of our private treatment rooms at our Las Vegas office. Generally, treatments take about 15 minutes, which consists of several small injections targeting the upper neck area. Some patients may need one treatment to reach their desired look while other patients may want several sessions spaced 3 – 4 weeks apart at Plastic Surgery Vegas.
What to Expect
Kybella treatments do not require anesthesia so you are able to leave the office as soon as you are comfortable to return to your normal activities. You may have temporary numbness, bruising, or swelling under your chin; however, this should not last more than a few days. Call Plastic Surgery Vegas immediately if you are noticing any unusual symptoms, including facial muscle weakness, difficulty swallowing, or if your smile is uneven. While the fat that is eliminated does not regenerate, the cells that remain can get larger so you should keep a steady weight after your Kybella injections to prevent new pockets of fat from forming. Ideal results following this procedure leave your neck appearing tighter and sleeker, and your neckline will be better defined.
How does Kybella work?
Deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, is designed to break down fat cells in the body. Once they are destroyed, these fat cells will not regenerate. Therefore, additional treatments shouldn't be necessary as soon as you have reached your desired outcome.
Can Kybella be used to treat other areas of the body?
Right now, Kybella is only available for the treatment of the submental area. Kybella has been proven to effectively reduce the look of a double chin. Kybella isn't approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use on any other area of the body.
Am I eligible for a Kybella treatment?
There are a few factors that could make you ineligible to receive a Kybella treatment. You need to be at least 18 years old, not pregnant or breastfeeding, and you should not have any infection in or around your neck. Before the procedure is performed, you should share your medical history and health concerns with your injector so that they can decide if you may be at risk for an adverse reaction from the treatment.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
During your initial consultation, a customized injection plan will be created to meet your desired results. Typically, patients receive between 2 – 4 Kybella injections before achieving their goals. Kybella injections need to be made about 30 days apart. You shouldn't receive any more than six treatments.
