What is an arm lift?
A frustrating side effect when getting older or losing weight is gaining loose skin. At Plastic Surgery Vegas, we offer arm lift surgery (also known as brachioplasty) as a correction for people who cannot seem to tone or tighten the arm with exercise and diet. Excess skin from the elbow to the upper arm is very common, especially for people who are advancing in age or have lost weight. Arm lift surgery excises this excess skin, commonly called "bat wings." Our plastic surgery team in Las Vegas, NV is very skilled in skin tightening and fat removal surgical techniques. If you would like to hear more about how brachioplasty can correct the contour of your arms, please call and schedule a consultation at Plastic Surgery Vegas.
"My experience at "Plastic Surgery Vegas" practice has been amazing.Everyone I came in contact with was very welcoming and professional. I can not speak highly enough of Dr. Higgins and his close staff (Laura & Kristin). This was to be my 4th breast augmentation in 25years (my 1st with Dr. Higgins), which included reconstruction/lift due to wanting to go smaller with this surgery. After my initial consultation with Dr. Higgins, I felt very comfortable and confident to proceed, but as a nurse, I had a few more questions. His reception had no problem scheduling an additional appointment to address any additional concerns. In my career as a nurse, I have met and worked with many physicians over the years. I have come across very few surgeons as authentic, caring, skilled and talented as Dr. Higgins. I felt that Dr. Higgins really listened to me, and addressed my questions and concerns. As most people are,,,, I was nervous about the surgery but felt very taken care of by Dr. Higgins and his staff all the way into to O.R. and just prior to being put to sleep. In all of my previous surgeries, I had never been met with such attention and compassion up to and beyond my surgery. Additionally, my results are PHENOMENAL, and have far exceeded my expectations. I would trust & recommend Dr. Higgins, as well as "Plastic Surgery Vegas" not only to complete strangers, but to anyone I love and care about. Las Vegas is a city that attracts lots of Plastic surgeons, which can make choosing a quality Plastic surgeon VERY difficult. I took my time, I did my research, and am extremely happy I did. If you expect quality care and results, Dr. Higgins, and Plastic Surgery Vegas will far exceed your expectations."- M.N. / Google / Jan 25, 2020
"My Only Regret is That I Waited 15 Years! - Although I had contemplated a BA for nearly 15 years, I had never had, nor been able to take the time off of work necessary for a proper recovery; while the pandemic seemed like a less than ideal situation, knowing that I wouldn't be rushed back to work was certainly a bonus, and thus I began my consultations. Living in Las Vegas, I met with six local surgeons as well as a remote consultation with a surgeon in Scottsdale, AZ - I wanted to do my due diligence, as well as meet those my girlfriends had recommended so highly.Dr. Edwards has a wonderful bedside manner, and speaks to you with a professionalism that isn't the least bit patronizing (as a medical practitioner myself, it's infuriating to be talked down to, and I can only imagine the frustration as a lay-person.) While I was completing my Vectra scan, he pulled up his previous bodybuilding clients with comparable stats, something no other PS did; we discussed that I wanted a very natural result, that matched my proportions, rather than looking like I came to Vegas to have my breasts done. He was one of two PS I met with who didn't try to coax me into something larger, and I came out of surgery with exactly what we had discussed: 295ccL/310ccR Natrelle Inspira Soft Touch Moderate Profile Silicone Unders. I couldn't have been happier then, and now, seven weeks later, I am still just as elated. At 6WPO, I was cleared to return to the gym, albeit carefully, and have spent the past week testing out different movements from my usual program (excluding chest, obviously) with no issues at all; recovery has genuinely been a breeze."- I. / RealSelf / Jul 28, 2020
"This is my second surgery with Dr Edwards, and I have to say that the experience was as good as the first one. I developed a severe capsular contracture after a breast revision with a different doctor. Dr Edwards have been trying really hard to help me with my issues, and even though it has been a long and painful journey getting my normal breasts again, I am and forever will be grateful that I met Dr Edwards because he is an outstanding physician, he has great bedside manners. He treats me like I am part of his family, he never appears to be in a rush, he will take the time to answer all your questions, and makes sure you are well taken care by everyone in the office. He has done everything and anything possible to prevent my body from developing a capsular contracture, and I trust him without hesitation. So far, my breasts look perfect, and I am very hopeful that this time my body will take the implants. Also, I am very thankful to Cathy that has been with me from the beginning of this long journey. She is kind, professional and very knowledgeable. If I ever had a concern, she was always available to resolve any issue. I never really had to request to talk to Dr Edwards because Cathy, and this time Cynthia too, always took care of anything I needed. Thank you so much ladies! Also, Sandra is Dr Edwards financial assistant, and she is awesome, and very helpful with the financial part of the process. Finally, the office is beautiful, clean and very welcoming. Everyone in the office, including the front desk clerk are very nice and friendly. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great plastic surgeon to go see Dr Edwards because you won’t regret it. He is the best of the best! Thank you Dr Edwards for all that you do to makes us look pretty and confident! ❤️🙏🏼"- A.J. / Google / Jul 20, 2020
"I Am Forever Thankful - Dr Edwards did my breast implants revision due to capsular contraction. And I have to say that meeting him it is the best thing that happened to me. Besides being highly skilled on this procedure, and doing an outstanding job, he is very kind, professional and always treat you like you are part of his family. My surgery went very well. I had minimal pain, no swelling and no bruising. He followed me frequently so check my progress. His assistants Cathy and Cynthia are super sweet, caring and extremely knowledgeable, you can tell that they are well trained. Every time I had a question or concern, they always called me back with a solution or answer to my problem. I always felt confident that if I needed something, he was always available to talk to me, but like I mentioned before, Cathy and Cynthia were so awesome that many times they answered my questions very well that I did not need to talk to Dr Edwards. Also, Sandra is Dr Edwards financial assistant and she is awesome, she will work with you through the process and will do her best to find you the best financial option for you.I highly recommend Dr Edwards to anyone that is looking for a great plastic surgeon. Trust me on this! You won’t regret meeting him. He is the best in town! Thank you for giving me back my confidence! I am forever grateful to Dr Edwards, Cathy and Cynthia for making this experience less traumatic."- A. / RealSelf / Jul 18, 2020

Candidates for arm lift
An arm lift is an aesthetic surgery using innovative methods to contour and eliminate excess skin. If you avoid sleeveless clothes because of your "bat wings" and want them to look trim and taut again, you are an ideal candidate for this procedure. You should be in good overall health so that the skin will recover well. Some of the top concerns for patients who want an arm lift are loose, excess skin on their upper arms, plus lost tightness of the skin. It is crucial that you are at or near your goal weight before your procedure.
In most cases, your upper arm lift surgery will take place in an outpatient facility, except in cases where multiple plastic surgeries are being performed at one time. An arm lift can be combined with other surgeries (usually performed in an inpatient setting for monitoring), like tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, and thigh lifts. Arm lift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia and may require a few hours to complete. The sagging skin will be surgically removed, starting at the elbow all the way up to the armpit. The incision will be placed as inconspicuously as possible, although it will leave a visible scar. In cases where liposuction is needed to remove stubborn fat, this can be performed as well. After the skin is pulled taut, it will be sutured in place. You will need to keep the incisions clean, bandaged, and in compression garments.
recovery after Arm lift
Your recovery period may take an estimated two weeks with lots of arm elevation and rest. Permit your body time to heal. You use your arms for almost everything so patients are encouraged to ease their way back into their normal routines. An appointment to remove sutures will be scheduled approximately ten days after surgery. Compression garments should be worn until you receive permission from our office. For at least one month, all strenuous activity should be avoided, except for taking short walks. If you notice uncontrolled bleeding, excessive swelling, hematoma (fluid buildup), infection, loss of feeling in the hands or arms, or heavy scarring, please contact Plastic Surgery Vegas for answers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I combine an arm lift with other surgeries?
It is common for patients who want an arm lift to combine this surgery with another procedure. This is often known as an upper body lift and can combine liposuction, a breast lift, or tummy tuck. An arm lift is also frequently performed as part of an after weight loss surgery for those who have lost a significant amount of weight and need full body contouring. During your initial consultation, other surgeries can be discussed so your custom treatment plan can be developed.
Will there be scars?
An arm lift requires incisions in order to excise loose skin, which leads to scarring from stitches. However, we make every effort to ensure that your incisions are small and placed in inconspicuous areas. After your arm lift, creams that help with healing will be recommended along with other tips for minimizing scarring. We also suggest you limit UV exposure during the first year to protect the scar from becoming discolored. In general, patients believe the overall benefits of an arm lift are worth the minimal scars created.
What results can I expect from an arm lift?
A surgical arm lift is done to remove hanging skin and small amounts of fat. You should maintain a healthy lifestyle that includes diet and exercise to avoid a dramatic change in your weight, which may compromise your surgical results. Following your lift, as soon as you are fully healed and we have given permission, you may begin strength training. This is a great way to add shape to your arms by building the muscles.
Are there nonsurgical treatments to improve my arms?
While there are several great nonsurgical skin tightening procedures, most can only give you mild improvements. To remove moderate to severe skin laxity, an arm lift is your best choice. Along with removing loose skin, we also liposuction small amounts of fat and smooth the tissue and remaining skin. If you are interested in learning about nonsurgical procedures, we can tell you about these in your consultation and then help you choose which fits your goals.
