"Dr Anson was wonderful didn’t suggest more than I needed. I thought I needed a neck lift and she told me all I need is liposuction to remove the fat under my chin and that I’m young enough my skin would tighten up on its own. She made me feel comfortable. I will definitely be going back!!"- J.L. / Facebook / Jan 13, 2019
Is liposuction for you?
Liposuction is a great procedure for individuals who are at an ideal weight but have stubborn pockets of fat that cannot be lost with diet alone. Patients interested in liposuction should have healthy skin because liposuction does not address stretched-out skin. It's also important to realize that liposuction is not a treatment for losing weight. Females undergoing liposuction should have no plans to become pregnant again as this could compromise the results. At the time of your consult for surgery, we will discuss realistic expectations.
Surgical liposuction is performed in an outpatient setting with the patient under general anesthesia. A very small incision is placed through the skin, and a cannula will be inserted. The cannula is a special tool that makes it easier to work loose the fatty tissue that is being removed. Once the chosen amounts of fat have been eliminated, we will close the incision. Depending on the number of areas receiving treatment, your procedure could take several hours. In the dedicated recovery area, your post-op team will assist you in managing any discomfort and care for your treated areas until your discharge.
You may be in recovery at home from lipo for several weeks, depending on the number of treatments performed and the size of the treatment area. It's normal to have bruising and swelling for one or two weeks, and you should have the stitches removed 7 – 10 days after surgery. The most important thing to do after having any surgery is to allow your body time to rest and heal. Once you return to work after your procedure, you should remember to take it easy. To increase your strength, stick to walking and light workouts as approved by our office. Keep in mind, you may see some improvements soon after your surgery, but it takes 6 – 10 months before your new body contour and shape is complete.
What about nonsurgical liposuction?
Thanks to modern advancements, there are several nonsurgical options to reduce fat. Some of the most popular methods are CoolSculpting and Kybella. Although these nonsurgical procedures can help reduce small amounts of fat, surgical liposuction is best for most people. Liposuction surgery delivers more dramatic and consistent results. Talk to our team about nonsurgical options in your consultation. We will be happy to go over the benefits and drawbacks of all your options and help you choose which is best for your needs and goals.
Will I have scars?
Since liposuction is a surgical procedure, incisions will be made and sutured. This will create scars; however, we will do our best to reduce their appearance. This includes making small, thin incisions in the natural folds of your body or in less visible areas. After your surgery, our team will go over how to care for your incisions so they heal flat and eventually fade.
Will my results last?
Before you have liposuction surgery, it's important to be committed to maintaining your results. Although liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in your body, you can still lose and gain weight. We recommend that you be at or close to your ideal weight before having liposuction. Afterward, it is best to remain within 5 – 10 pounds of your post-surgical weight. Getting pregnant after liposuction will also affect your results; however, another surgery, like a mommy makeover, can be done to refresh your body.
